Choose One Word

I started the one-word challenge in 2012. After I lost my dad and sister, I so badly wanted to feel His peace, and I didn’t know how to achieve it.

So, my one-word focus in 2012 was, peace.

As I spent time with God, read my devotions, studied His word, and intentionally focused my days on peace, I was amazed at how I eventually found peace! It actually worked!

Since 2012, the words I have chosen have changed me!

Each word has been carved on my heart and soul and have stayed with me throughout the years. They have helped me deepen my spiritual life and brought me closer to God.

I believe, at least for me, that new year’s resolutions seldom work because they are based on the type of person we are tired of being rather than who God wants us to become. Resolutions are also often broken, leaving an absence of growth in our life.

When we choose a single word, we are provided with clarity and focus.

We move toward the future rather than forgetting the past. So, what if our hopes for the year ahead centered instead on who God wants us to become? Who He wants to transform us into? How He wants us to grow?

So, how do you choose “the” word?

Begin praying about it.

Around November and December, I begin to reflect on the year with my current word and how it has impacted my life. I also pray and ask God to reveal where He wants me to focus in the new year. What He wants me to learn. Where He wants me to grow.

I intentionally watch and listen for where God leads me.

Once God reveals His word to me, I search His word (the bible) to find a verse that will help me throughout the year. A verse that will help me learn, grow, and transform into who God is calling me to become.

Share your word.

Sharing with others will assist in providing the support and encouragement needed stay the course. To not give up when it feels awkward or we are not experiencing what we anticipated. We may have our own vision of how we want the word to change us, but remember, God may have something else in mind.

I encourage you to share your word with us! We would love to be part of your support system as we focus on encouraging and equipping you to make Godly choices that will transform your life.

With love and joy,

Laura
